Vittorio Viviani (Milano 1909 - Nova Milanese 1998) è una delle figure più autentiche e interessanti della pittura lombarda del Novecento. Il suo rapporto con Nova Milanese è stato da sempre intenso e continua ancora oggi, dopo la morte, attraverso le sue iniziative artistiche. A Nova dal 1931, insegna alla Scuola Professionale; qui trasferisce nel 1961 la Libera Accademia di Pittura, la sua "creazione" più importante, al di là della pittura. Istituisce, in collaborazione con l'Amministrazione Comunale, il Premio di Pittura "Bice Bugatti" e il Premio di Disegno "Giovanni Segantini". Nel 1978 dona a Nova 10 dipinti e 54 disegni, confermando per l'ennesima volta il suo amore per questa cittadina. Nei disegni, che datano dal 1936 al 1966 si evidenzia la sua peculiare capacità di sintesi formale e nei dipinti, tutti di notevoli dimensioni, degli anni 1976 - 77, si riassumono con immediatezza i caratteri stilistici di tutta la sua pittura. Una pittura chiara, del bianco, fatta di semplicissime ma sensibili variazioni luminose si costruisce nella libera trama delle pennellate, determinando e delineando con rigore le forme. Anche i soggetti riassumono quelli di tutta una lunga carriera artistica: le Venezie, i paesaggi delle Puglie e le figure femminili. Essi, pur nella loro realtà plastica che sgorga dalla autentica gioia di fare pittura; infatti il Maestro affermava che mentre dipingeva si sentiva in Paradiso.

Vittorio Viviani (Milan 1909 - Nova Milanese 1998) is one of the most authentic and interesting figures in twentieth-century painting in Lombardy. He has always been deeply involved with Nova Milanese, and this involvement survived his death because of his initiatives in the field of art. From 1931 he taught at the Professional School in Nova; in 1961 he moved the Free Painting Academy here, his most important creation, beyond painting. In collaboration with the Municipal Administration he instituted the Painting Prize Bice Bugatti and the Drawing Prize Giovanni Segantini. In 1978 he donated 10 paintings and 54 drawings to Nova, confirming for the umpteenth time his love for this town. In his drawings, dated from 1936 onwards, his peculiar capacity of formal synthesis is summed up, and in his paintings, all of remarkable dimensions and dated 1976-77, the stylistic features of all his painting is immediately evident. A light kind of painting, from a white base, formed of very simple but perceptible variations in light, growing in the free but solid brushstrokes that determine and delineate the forms. Even his subjects sum up his long career in art: the Venezie, the landscapes of Puglia and female figures. They are, albeit in their plastic reality, visions of poetry, but poetry that flows from a real joy in painting; indeed the Master affirmed that while he painted he felt he was in Paradise.
